Back to Lessons in January: How to Keep Our Students Motivated

January is the month of getting back on track: the holidays are over, school has resumed, and so have the English lessons at our Helen Doron English school. We’re excited to see our young students again, and the return to lessons has started off on the right foot! However, we know that in the coming weeks, we might face some challenges.

With winter in full swing, it’s normal for students to feel less motivated to attend lessons. The cold, seasonal flu, and colds don’t make it easier to return to daily routines. Plus, getting back into the school rhythm after the festive season can be tough for many. Energy levels aren’t always at their peak, and that’s perfectly normal!

Accepting Moments of Low Energy

It’s important to help our students understand that there are times when fatigue and lack of motivation may take over. As a school and as parents, we can do a lot to support them without making them feel pressured. Every small step towards learning is valuable, even during challenging times.

The key to overcoming this period is to maintain exposure to English in a constant and natural way, following the learning techniques that have made a difference in our method for years.

The Importance of Audio Tracks: Continuous English Immersion

Even if the children may feel more tired or less motivated to attend lessons, it’s crucial to keep exposing them to English every day. A great way to do this, especially during weeks when energy might be low, is through the audio tracks we use in our Helen Doron English method.

Listening to English in the background, as recommended weekly on our reminder, is a simple and natural way to keep language immersion active. These tracks help children and teens absorb new words and grammatical structures without needing active or forced engagement.

Even when they don’t feel at their best, their brain will continue working with the language indirectly, keeping the learning alive and making it easier to get back to full speed when they feel more energized.

In Conclusion

As we face this chilly January together, let’s remember that learning is a journey with highs and lows. Let’s embrace moments of slowing down without worry, while continuing to provide our students with the tools to progress, even passively. Constant listening to the audio tracks is a powerful ally in the learning process and will help our young students stay connected with the English language, even during tougher times.

Let’s keep going, towards a 2025 filled with progress and new language achievements!
